Artificial barriers against arionid slug movement

چکیده

Arionid slugs can be serious pests on horticultural and agricultural crops. Using slug movement barriers is a potentially effective method to control damage. We evaluated the performance of waterglass (sodium silicate) copper foil as against Arion vulgaris both in controlled experiment semi-field validation under natural conditions. used strawberry fruits baits behind monitored damage strawberries. In experiment, delayed but did not prevent passage, whereas completely hindered from passing. Barrier width (3, 4 or 6 cm) affect passability barriers. validation, there was no difference events between pots with without Waterglass applied reduced by 50% compared barrier. hinder may prove cost-effective horticulture any adverse side effects non-targeted organisms.

Creating artificial barriers to vaccinations.

Achieving optimum outcomes is difficult enough without creating artificial barriers. Certainly none of us would ever admit to putting up any barrier that would prevent our residents from gaining access to important medical care; however, that it exactly what we have been doing by requiring signed consents for influenza and pneumococcal vaccinations in long-term care facilities. This is a seriou...

Handling Artificial Acceleration in Mouse Movement Biometrics

The purpose of the research is to focus on the possible usage of the Mouse Movement Biometric system for recognition of users. The data that was used was gathered through a web-browser based program, which recorded multiple sessions for all 39 users. The study focuses on analyzing and solving various problems that exist when attempting to use this data for pattern recognition and for normalizat...

How cellular movement determines the collective force generated by the Dictyostelium discoideum slug.

How the collective motion of cells in a biological tissue originates in the behavior of a collection of individuals, each of which responds to the chemical and mechanical signals it receives from neighbors, is still poorly understood. Here we study this question for a particular system, the slug stage of the cellular slime mold Dictyostelium discoideum (Dd). We investigate how cells in the inte...

Innate barriers against infection and associated disorders.

The innate immune system is primarily responsible for prevention of infection of the skin by pathogens, but is also important in control of inflammation. The components of innate immunity are frequently misunderstood based on a historical bias for leukocyte-mediated immune defense. Many participating cell types are often overlooked, in particular epithelial cells that provide an early and criti...
